Together, Laurel Masse and Wendy Lane Bailey have a combined fifty plus years of professional singing experience. They have performed music from just about every genre under the sun, and worked in a variety of venues from house concerts to grand concert a founding member of the Grammy Award Winning Manhattanhalls. Now Masse, Transfer and Bailey, a former DC resident and founder of the Washington, DC Area Cabaret Network, are bringing their experience to the classroom with Words & Music: a Master Class for Singers on Saturday September 27th.
The class is a four hour workshop for vocalists of all genres that explores the arts of song interpretation, communicating with an audience, working with musicians, sequencing a set, and handling onstage mistakes. The class also goes a step beyond most performance workshops by touching on vital offstage issues such as marketing, networking, and packaging an act. The size of the class is limited to allow ample personal attention and performance time for each student. Masse and Bailey are adamant about creating an atmosphere in the workshop where students feel supported and free to express themselves. “Every person who comes to our class has something to offer as a performer, and it is our job to help .them figure out what that is in the most positive way possible,” says Masse
The class will begin at 10:00 AM in the Parish Hall of Blessed Sacrament Church at 3630 Quesada St. Washington, DC. The venue is accessible by the Friendship Heights Metro stop, and there is also parking in the lot behind the Parish Center. The cost of the class is $165.
