Stephen Holden on Tony Martin

The NYTimes reviews the man who makes Barbara Cook look youthful: “But most important is the emotion he puts into performances. On Tuesday, “The Very Thought of You,” “Begin the Beguine” and his theme song, “I’ll See You in My Dreams,” conveyed a farsighted nostalgia. As he sang the lines “Lips that once were mine/Tender eyes that shine/They will light my way tonight/I’ll see you in my dreams,” he conjured memories of Cyd Charisse, his wife of nearly 60 years, who died in June and who was in the audience smiling when he performed at Feinstein’s early last year.”
