Songs on the Sand

On Sunday Ron and I caught the “American Songbook” show at Clear Space Productions in Lewes, Delaware.  This was the tenth edition of a concert that Doug Yetter and Ken Skresz have been doing, saluating the American Popular Songbook.  The current edition had sets highlighting Cole Porter, Jerry Herman, Irving Berlin, Maltby & Shire and the show Kismet.  Doug’s piano solo on Alexander’s Ragtime Band brought back terrific memories of going to hear him at the Stagecoach in Baltimore; readers may also remember him from stints at Philips, Marmadukes, and the Chesapeake Music Hall.
However the most amazing thing about the afternoon is to get a glimpse of the theater that Doug and Ken have built there by the beach.  There were 250+ people there for the concert on a Sunday afternoon, and there was such a sense of community that I felt like I was crashing someone else’s family reunion.  The theater has an active slate of performance and eductional outreach.  Bravi, guys!!!
