The NYTimes on the crooner’s salute to Mel Torme: “Mr. Stritch’s vocal texture is slightly rougher than Tormé’s crooning, which earned him the nickname the Velvet Fog (a label he detested, although it was poetically accurate). But Mr. Stritch has the same enthusiastic bop-a-do attitude, musical erudition and confident mastery of swing.”
