Andrea Marcovicci & Michael MiyazakiAndrea Marcovicci & Michael Miyazaki“You come to cabaret from a historic and worldly wise perspective”…Andrea Marcovicci
“You have balls the size of a truck” … Amanda McBroom

Welcome!  I’m Michael Miyazaki, cabaret junkie (that’s me with the great Andrea Marcovicci).

Although Washington DC is hardly one of the most happenning cabaret scenes in the country, a number of us are working to change that.

This blog is meant to give info about happenings on the scenes, and my experiences in the cabaret world.  And maybe some tangential goodies too.

This is a new adventure, so I appreciate all your feedback.  (And it’ll be nice when I feel I’ve nailed that critical third song of the set.)

Some of the features you’ll find on the site:

Ron-ing Around — Contributions from my partner, that terrifc talent Ron Squeri

Jill’s Jottings — The insights from the lovely Jill Leger

Diva 5+1 — A series where I interview major cabaret performers

At the Keys — Interviews and features of music directors

Resources — Interesting resources for cabaret performers

A little cabaret news outside of your area, but news nonetheless: There is now a “Cabaret Support Group” based in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, the Minnesota Society of Cabaret Singers. We’ll have our first meeting in October, hope to send some singers your way in the future!
Great blog! I’ll be reading it often! (now that I know it’s here, that is)

  4. Hello Michael,
I love what you’re doing. I’m out on tour with Mamma Mia but when I return to DC I’ll be doing my cabaret show. Also can’t want to see shows around town. This will keep me in the loop until then. Many thanks! Mary Jayne Raleigh

The thing I admire about you the most is that you don’t just talk about doing something, you make it happen. This is an amazing website, and you have obviously and as usual put your heart in soul into it – “you go boy”!!! Hope the Lupone/Patinkin concert was wonderful.

    Dear Michael,

I love checking in on your site, where I always find something new to entice me. Today it was the 3 “Yale Stories.” Having just been accepted to the program for this summer, I wanted to read a bit of what I’m getting myself into, and I loved these 3 heartfelt and insightful essays. (Of course, now I’m shaking in my boots, er, sandals, this being the beginning of Palm Springs summer weather…) And thank you for the six great songs you recommended for me last fall, I’m taking a few of them with me!
