Lina Koutrakos / Rick Jensen Workshop Concert

March 29, 2010

OK, we spent the workshop today putting the final show together.  Lina and Rick shared the process they use to assemble a show, demonstrating it on the one for the class.  Then it was the nitty-gritty of actually doing it all.  Particular congratulations to Daryl Anderson, ToniRae Brotons, Emily Everson, and Jennifer Blades who at 12:30 were informed that they were doing duets and had them ready by the 6:00pm show under the brilliant guidance of the teaching team.

For anyone interested, here’s a link to the recording I made of the concert.  (Unfortunately we were seated in front of the cafe area, so you also get the hum of the kitchen equipment.)

Here’s what people sang:

  • Hooray for Love — Jennifer Blades
  • Come In From the Rain / Why Did I Choose You ? — ToniRae Brotons / Darryl Anderson
  • I Never Say Anything / My Superman– Chris Cochrane
  • I’ll Get Up Tomorrow Morning — Christy Trapp
  • All of My Life — Darryl Anderson
  • Baby, You Can sleep While I Drive — Marianne Glass Miller
  • When I Fall In Love — Elcindor Johnson
  • It’s a Jungle Out There — Emily Everson
  • Do Right Woman, Do Right Man — Jean McMahon
  • Sleepy Man — Emily Everson & Jennifer Blades
  • Yard Sale — Michael Miyazaki
  • How Did We Come To This ? — Christy Frye
  • On the Other Side of the Tracks — ToniRae Brotons

Come to the CHAWbaret !!!!

October 9, 2009

OK, I haven’t been promoting CHAWbaret to the extent that our producer has been asking us to. (And bless Dean Reichard our producer for doing all those producer things — like telling everyone involved to promote the heck out of the show — so well !!!  And Dean’s been doing his part, he even got an article about CHAWbaret in the Capitol Hill Rag.)

So, dear readers, please come to CHAWbaret !  It’s foing to be a great show, with material on the theme of magic.  And what a cast:Deborah Davidson, Dorie Hightower, Charlene James-Duguid, Katherine McCann, Michael Miyazaki, and Ron Squeri & Eileen Warner with music direction by Amy Conley !

Abaracadabra it’s CHAWbaret !!!

August 21, 2009

I’m thrilled that Dean Reichard invited me to participate in the next iteration of CHAWbaret, the fundraiser for the Capitol Hill Art’s Workshop!  We had our first rehearsal this week, and I am awestruck by the talents involved — Katherine McCann, Eileen Warner, Deborah Davidson, Dean Reichard, Dorie Hightower, Ron Squeri, and Matt Howe.  All under the terrific music direction of Amy Conley.

Since the show is in October, the theme this year is Magic To Do and it’s great to see the number of interpretations that the artists are providing. And I always love the creative part of the rehearsal process, where so many things are possible!  It’s the magic that starts the magic.*

So mark your calendars for our shows, October 16,17,23,& 24 at CHAW.  And of course I’ll have more dispatches before then!

*Apologies to those who found themselves with elevated blood sugar after that line.

Courage at the End

July 6, 2009

Well, we had the last matinee of Mother Courage today.  Which will mean a little less alienation on a regular basis in my life.

It was truly inspirational to be in a company with so many fine actors and see them work at a consistently high caliber show after show.  And it was truly awe-inspiring to have the honor to watch Nancy Robinette show after show (and to even exchange 5 lines with her– woo-hoo!!!).

Thanks to all who came to see the show!

Mother Courage at a Discount!

In a move Mother Courage herself would approve of, discount tickets to the show are available on Goldstar.  C’mon, where can you get so much alienation so cheap!?  And Nancy Robinette is spectacular in the role.
